Fatigue Considerations in Design: Variable load, loading pattern, Endurance stresses, influence of size, surface finite, notch sensitivity & stress concentration, Goodman line, soderberg, design og machine members subjected to combined, steady and alternating stresses. Design of finite life. Design of shafts under Variable Stresses.
Design of Regidity: transverse and torsion deflection.
Design of Helical compression, torsional and leaf springs. Springs under Variable Stresses.
Preloading of bolts; effects of initial tension and applied load bolts subject to variable stresses
Design of weldments, welds subjected to eccentric loading and combined stresses
Design of members which are curved like crane hook, body of C-clamp, machine frame etc., Power screws like lead screw, Screw Jack.
Design of cylinder; Thin and Thick
Design of flywheels
Design of components like crank shafts and connecting rod.
Design of plate clutches and brakes
Design of belt, rope and pulley drive system, chain & sprocket drive systems.

Design of sliding & journal bearing: method of lubrication, hydrodynamic, hydrostatic, boundary etc. Minimum film thickness and thermal equilibrium. Selection of anti-friction bearings for different loads and load cycle Mounting of the bearings. Methods of lubrication, selection of oil seals.
